Episode 14 features Ryan Minkoff, author of Thin Ice: A Hockey Journey from Unknown to Elite–and the Gift of a Lifetime. The Beers in The Lot podcast crew talked with Ryan about his youth and high school hockey days in Minnesota; playing college club hockey at the University of Washington and the crazy road trips; an opportunity to attend the WHL’s Everett Silvertips training camp; Ryan’s path to playing professional hockey in Finland and what life was like in a small Finnish town for one of two import players on the team; how helping his Latvian roommate with his pro contract led to Ryan’s professional player agent career and starting his company 83, LLC; and ultimately, what led to Ryan writing his book.

In Episode 13, the guys discuss late start times for their beer league hockey games that lead to slow and tired mornings; retired NHL enforcer tough guy, Georges Laraque challenging boxing legend Mike Tyson to a match last week; and the NHL Reverse Retro uniforms, creative goalie equipment setups, and NHL player style.

In Episode 12, the Beers in The Lot crew appeals to the “try hards” in beer league to stop trying so hard; summarizes their theory that Captain Quint murdered Ben Gardner to get the contract to hunt down the shark in the movie Jaws; and the uncertainty around the NHL, major juniors, and college hockey getting started.

Episode 11 features guest and beer league hockey teammate, Branden McGee from Flying Dog Brewery helping the guys tell a couple stories from their recent trip to Johnstown, PA for the Slapshot Cup Tournament; discussing Brando’s previous job as an Assistant General Manager for the Frederick Keys minor league baseball team; and his “other job” as the beer man for the Old Fat Bald Guys Hockey League.

Episode 10 of Beers in The Lot features Mark Maradei from Steel City Nation Podcast to talk Pittsburgh Penguins hockey. Mark focuses on Pittsburgh sports but also covers all sports, leagues, and teams around the world. He has had some interesting guests on Steel City Nation including retired NFL player Leon Searcy, Pittsburgh Hockey Now’s Dan Kingerski, and the hilarious Pittsburgh Dad actor Curt Wootton. Mark also invited Beers in The Lot’s own Jonny and Rigs on to talk hockey before the NHL playoffs, which inspired them to get into podcasting.

This week, the Beers in The Lot crew tell some stories about previous fun at the Slapshot Cup hockey tournament in Johnstown, PA including where “the spot” is each year; the Vegas Golden Knights making moves in free agency; and Taylor Hall signing with the Buffalo Sabres and how their fans deserve some success.
